Classes at Blue Ridge Yoga are an invigorating practice of asanas (postures), emphasizing strength, flexibility, awareness, and deep relaxation with appropriate adjustments for all levels of fitness and experience. Classes are taught in the tradition of B.K.S. Iyengar, world-renowned hatha yoga teacher and author of the classic text “Light on Yoga”.
Joe Adlesic: Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (CIYT), Intermediate Junior I
Joe had the good fortune to cross paths and begin studying with his mentor John Schumacher in the early 1980s. He studied weekly with John for many years along with additional study through numerous workshops with Senior Iyengar yoga teachers from the US and abroad. He was among the early wave of participants in the formal US Iyengar teacher certification process in the early 1990s. Joe also attended national Iyengar conventions and international Iyengar events where he participated in mega-classes with BKS Iyengar directly. He also traveled to Pune, India on multiple occasions to study at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute to attend classes with BKS Iyengar’s children – Geeta and Prashant Iyengar. He has taken advantage of the online study opportunities offered over the past few years with Prashant and Abhijata Iyengar through the RIMYI in Pune, India.
Joe began teaching at Unity Woods Yoga Center in 1990. At that time, in addition to teaching at Unity Woods, he also founded the Blue Ridge Yoga studio in Charlottesville, VA where he served as owner/director for the next 20 years. From 2009 until October 2022, Joe taught exclusively at Unity Woods where he offered classes over the years at all of the previous in-person studio locations: Bethesda, DC and Arlington. He was offering online classes at Unity Woods from March 2020 until October 2022.
Joe is happy to now begin offering online classes through the blueridge.yoga website as of October 1, 2022.
Joe is deeply grateful for all the benefits, on many levels, from the practice of Iyengar yoga, especially all the wonderful students, teachers and friends he has come to know along the way.
